Va. Will of Peter Hord of Stafford CountyIn the name of God, Amen: I Peter Hord of Brunswick Parish and Stafford county being sick and weak tho of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. And first I resign my soul to God with all humble hopes of acceptance thro Jesus Christ. My worldly estate I dispose of as follows.
First, I give to my son Kellis Hord and his heirs forever that plantation he now lives upon together with all the rest of my Land lying on the same side of the main road. Item, I leave to my son Peter Hord, during his natural life, the use of the plantation whereon I now live, together with all the rest of my land lying on the same side of the main road, also one negro boy nam’d Cupid: and all his decease I give and bequeath all the aforesaid land and Negroe together with all the negroes that may fall to him in dividing my estate and their increase to be equally divided amongst his seven children, viz: Sarah Hord, Whiteley Hord, Margaret Hord, Rueben Hord, Elizabeth Hord, Anka Hord, and Agatha Hord and their heirs forever. Item: I give to my son William Hord’s children a negro man named Jamie, to them and their heirs forever: also I give to the said children twenty pounds apiece specie the money to be raised out of my estate, and to be lodged in the hands of my son Kellis Hord, and he to pay the same to the said Children as they come to age: that is the girls to eighteen years of age, and the boys to twenty one. Item I give to my daughter Anthoret Hord one negro man named Harry to her heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter Sarah Hord and to her heirs forever, one negro man named Ralph. Item I give to my grandson Edwin Hord, one negro girl named Lydia and to his heirs forever, with her increase, also one black horse now in his possession. Item I give to Susanna Mellett one feather bed and furniture, also eight pounds specie and the use of one negro girl named Tobe during her natural life and at her decease I give the said negro, together with her increase, to be equally divided amongst my four children Kellis Hord, Peter Hord, Anthoret Hord and Sarah Hord and to their heirs forever; I also leave ten pounds specie to be laid out in building a small house for the use of the Susanna Mellet on such part of my Land as can be agreed upon between the said Susanna Mellet and either of my two sons Kellis or Peter; and she to have free use of the same during her life. Item, I give to my four children Kellis Hord, Peter Hord, Anthoret Hord and Sarah Hord, all that part of my brother Ambrose Hord deceased: whatever may be recovered for the aforesaid Estate, I give my part to be equally divided amongst my children, Kellis Hord, Peter Hord, Anthoret Hord, and Sarah Hord to them and their heirs forever. Item-All of the residure of my Estate I will and direct my executors to dispose of, and to pay my just debts out the produce; the remainder I give to my four children and their heirs, viz: Kellis Hord, Peter Hord, Anthoret Hord, and Sarah Hord to be equally divided among them.And I appoint my sons Kellis Hord, Peter Hord, Rhodin Hord and Jesse Hord my executors of this my last Will and Testament sealed with my seal and dated this 21st day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty seven. *****************
